You Need The SourceFlex Audio System!

Wiring Requirements

The SourceFlex Audio System is an integrated set of products from RDL used to configure cost-effective, expandable audio monitoring. SourceFlex gives customers the option to select up to 8 audio sources, adjust the volume, and listen with impeccable clarity. Source switching equipment is all electronic. Monitoring stations are ruggedly constructed, easily maintained, and cosmetically attractive! The SourceFlex system consists of switching equipment and various options which may be expanded at any time. The following components introduce a new user to the SourceFlex advantages:

SAS-82

SAS-82SAS-82 Audio Controller is a 1/3 rack width module which receives audio and data input from either a SAS-88 or SAS-8i Audio Input Interface. The SAS-82 is supplied with a ribbon cable which connects to the prior port in the system. For example, the first SAS-82 connects to the output port on a Audio Input Interface; while the second and subsequent SAS-82s connect to the output port of the prior SAS-82. The SAS-82 contains the switching circuitry to select one of eight sources, and provides the installer with an audio level control to set the maximum volume level feeding the SOURCEFLEX Listening Station. Audio, data and power connections from the SAS-82 to the Listening Stations are made via installer provided six conductor wire. Each SAS-82 controls 2 SOURCEFLEX Listening Stations. For systems with more than 12 total Listening Stations, use the SAS-8C instead of a SAS-82.

SAS-8C

SAS-8CSAS-8c 8 Station Audio Controller controls eight SourceFlex remote listening station. Six conductor wire connects each remote station with the SAS-8C. The power conductor is protected by an automatically resetting fuse. Use of the SAS-8C in large SourceFlex systems yields the most economical cost per station.

SAS-8i

SAS-8iSAS-8i is an audio input chassis for SourceFlex™ Audio System that accepts 8 balanced or unbalanced sources. The SAS-8i has separate paging input and closure contacts. It is programmable for maximum number of sources used. The SAS-8i supports SAS-8C or SAS-82 SourceFlex controllers and controls 4 SourceFlex listening stations. There is a provision to set maximum listening level at each station and has the protection of an auto-resetting fuse protects power feed, to each listening station.

SAS-HC8

SAS-HC8The SAS-HC8 Headphone Control Station is a SourceFlex headphone listening station for use with exercise equipment or on a tabletop. Each unit features a source selector with numeric indicator and volume adjustment buttons. Sealed touch controls protect the internal circuitry from debris and moisture. The rugged metal case is both attractive and durable. If headphones are left unplugged from the SAS-HC8, the internal processor resets the volume to a safe listening level. This averts the possibility of a loud, potentially harmful audio burst when headphones are plugged in.

SAS-RC8

SAS-RC8SAS-RC8 Room Control Station is a SourceFlex listening station for wall mounting in a room. Source selection and volume adjustment buttons are provided on a sealed touch panel. A numeric display shows the selected source. There are two audio outputs on the back of the unit. The balanced audio output is used to feed an external power amplifier. The power output provides up to 1.5 Watts RMS into an 8 Ohm Speaker. The SAS-RC8 is ideal for office distributed sound systems with background music and a paging source. Installation is simple, requiring only wiring and an external 8 Ohm Speaker for most installations.

SAS-SM8A

SAS-SM8ASAS-SM8A Sonic Mushroom™ is a tabletop monitor speaker with built-in user source selector, source display, and volume adjustment. Source selection and volume adjustment are all electronic, using touch controls on the top of the mushroom. The SAS-SM8A disburses sound in three directions onto a table top. It is ideally installed on a small table surrounded by people such as those in sports clubs. Because the sound is localized to the table area, people at adjacent tables may clearly and audibly listen to different sources. The selector allows the users to pick one of eight possible sources, or no source (off). Volume may be ramped up or down. If system power is turned off, all SM8s in the system power up at minimum level.

SAS-TC8

SAS-TC8SAS-TC8 is a wall mounted listening station for localized tabletop sound. The SAS-TC8 features source selection and volume adjustment buttons which are sealed touch controls that protect the internal circuitry. Because the sound is localized to the table area, people at adjacent tables may clearly and audibly listen to different sources. The selector allows the users to pick one of eight possible sources, or no source (off). Volume may be ramped up or down. This unit also features ULTRASTYLE™ design rugged metal enclosure and has an integral speaker or remote speaker connection. If system power is turned off, all listening stations in the system power up at minimum level.

SAS-TEM

SAS-TEM

  • Attractive and durable mounting bracket allowing an SAS-TC8 Tabletop Listening Station to mount to the edge of a table for localized sound
  • Horizontal and vertical mounting screws for extremely secure attachment to the table edge.
  • The SAS-TC8 wiring is concealed and protected within the SAS-TEM bracket.

WIRING REQUIREMENTS FOR SOURCE FLEX™ INSTALLATIONS

Three pairs are required between the controller (SAS-8C or SAS-82) and each Listening Station (SAS-SM8, SAS-HC8, SAS-RC8). For installations where severe rf interference may be encountered (and for CE compliant installations), shielded wire is used. An additional pair is required if the call button is installed with SAS-SM8 Sonic Mushrooms.

Standard single-pair shielded audio wire is used to connect audio sources to the SAS-88 Input Module. If the sources are located a distance from the equipment rack likely to produce ground loop hum, unbalanced audio should be balanced at the source using an RDL® TX-LC2 or other RDL transformer product.

Wiring from controller to the remote station follows sequential numbering at each end. The pairs are connected as shown in the diagram.

Distance from Controller to Remote Station

Up to 200 ft. (61 m)
Up to 325 ft. (100 m)
Up to 500 ft. (150 m)
